Toms River Chess Club Newsletter 2017 #23
This week (6-13 July)….
Cabinet handle replacement and moving were the first thing done at the meeting. Then, lots of chess!
Austin Kramer, Joe O’Brien, Richard Newmark (such a cutup!), Michael Chua, Tom Bogert, Jim Bonanno, Edd Knowles, Janice and Chris Kenney, Pete Pietras, Dylan Clark, Lowell Berg, Steve D’Agostino, Isaiah and Joan Totaro, Bob Whiteside, Alicia and Justin Baylock, Rexford Cristal, Stan Lachick, Andrew Assur, Jim Tuzeneu, Bryce Troncone, Pat Festa, Dan Westadt, Greg Coats and myself attended as members and David Kleinfeld, Renee Paugutan and an exchange student from Spain, who is staying with Bryce Troncone for another month. He didn’t write his last name down on the sign in sheet and his first name is Alvaro, I think. Pretty good chess player!
Jim Bonanno helped put the handle on and move the cabinet, invaluable assistance! Thanks Jim!
Isaiah Totaro wanted to show one of his games at the World Open on the demo board so it was hauled out and set up. Isaiah, emulating Edd Knowles, was able to play through the whole game from memory! His chess improvement is amazing! It was a decisive victory as white over a much higher ranked player who used the advanced Dragon to combat e4. It was classical book and Isaiah prevailed satisfactorily. He has now played 136 games in 31 tournaments and his rating rose from 1556 to 1643! Congratulations, Isaiah!
A picture of Isaiah at the demo board is attached. And pictures sent from Rich Mullen from his honeymoon, an Alaskan Cruise, are also attached! (Chess related, of course!)
The simul with Brian is still to be determined, watch for an email about it soon.
